Ferry departing Skala, Agistri, for a day trip back to Athens

One Day in Agistri

Agistri works well as a day trip from Piraeus if you keep the plan simple and build in time for your return ferry rather than chasing every highlight.

A realistic day

Morning: take an early ferry from Piraeus and arrive in Skala or Megalochori. If you land in Skala, start with coffee and a swim at Skala Beach — it keeps the day easy and avoids wasting time on transport.

Late morning: walk toward Skliri for a greener coastline, or continue carefully toward Chalikiada if you’re confident with the path and wearing proper shoes. If you’d rather stay comfortable, remain in Skala and use local transport or a taxi later.

Lunch: return to Skala or Megalochori for a relaxed meal. Agistri rewards rhythm more than rushing, so keep the pace slow.

Afternoon: choose one highlight beyond the port area — Dragonera for pine-backed swimming, Aponisos for turquoise water and sunset atmosphere, or Metochi for a short viewpoint walk.

Evening: return to the port with time to spare. Ferry departures change, so check the same-day schedule before planning a sunset too far from where you need to leave from.

Practical tips

  • Confirm your return ferry time before you plan the afternoon — don’t assume it matches the outbound schedule.
  • Skala is the simplest base for a day trip; Megalochori works well if your ferry lands there.
  • Pick one afternoon highlight rather than trying to cover Dragonera, Aponisos and Metochi in the same day.
  • Carry water and sun protection if your plan includes any walking beyond the beach.
