Beach on Agistri island with pine trees reaching the shore

Best Beaches in Agistri

Agistri’s beaches are varied for such a small island — sandy and easy in Skala, greener and more natural toward Skliri and Chalikiada, pine-backed at Dragonera, and almost lagoon-like at Aponisos.

Choosing the right beach for your day

Skala gives the easiest sandy swim close to cafés and accommodation. Megalochori offers simpler north-coast swimming near the capital. Skliri and Chalikiada sit on the greener, more secluded east side, where access becomes more natural and less serviced. Dragonera, on the west coast, brings pine shade and pebbles, while Aponisos feels almost lagoon-like, with calm turquoise water and a more organised summer setup. Mariza, near Limenaria, suits confident swimmers who prefer deeper, rockier water over sand.

Choose Skala for convenience and families, Chalikiada for scenery and seclusion, Dragonera for a pine-backed west-coast swim, Aponisos for a full summer beach experience, and Mariza for a more dramatic, rocky setting.

Good to know

Beach services change by season. Treat the character of each beach — sand or pebble, shaded or open, easy or difficult to reach — as stable, and treat sunbeds, canteens, water sports and any entrance fees as things to check locally each year.

  • Not every beach is sandy — several, including Chalikiada and Mariza, are pebble or rocky.
  • Chalikiada in particular needs proper shoes and some care on the access path.
  • Smaller coves such as Xekofti, Magiza and Bariama suit self-sufficient travellers rather than a full beach day.
  • Bring water and sun protection to any beach beyond Skala or Megalochori — services are limited outside the main season.
